Love Genie

Here’s a rather entertaining little 10 minute film from the guy that made Spotters, a couple of month back.

Reminiscent of Cable Guy and/or other Jim Carrey style comedies Love Genie is a performance based comedy and is quite bold with it’s use of music and non sequiturs. There are some very good jokes in there and plenty of visual interest and just enough punch to sustain itself for ten minutes (which is a very tricky duration to work with).

I have a lot of respect the film’s writer/director Matt Waite because, like me he was one of the few at college to take comedy seriously. It’s a very tough genre to work in not only because it need to be funny but also because many crews I’ve worked with think it’s an excuse to ‘have a laugh’ at the expense of the production. I’ve no idea about the behind-the-scenes of this production but I can say that it realises a lot of the potential that Matt has been working towards and indicates that should he pursue a production career route that he’ll fine!

happy graduation Matt
